Bio
Carlos A. E. Garcia obtained his Bachelor's degree in Physics from the State University of Campinas in 1977, and his Master's and Doctorate degrees in Oceanography from the University of Southampton in 1986 and 1989, respectively. He is currently a Full Professor of Physical Oceanography at the Institute of Oceanography of the Federal University of Rio Grande (FURG). Throughout his academic career at FURG, he held administrative positions as Head of the Department of Physics (1982-1984 and 1994-1996) and Rector of the University (1997-2000). In January 2009, he assumed the Directorship of the Institute of Oceanography at FURG. He currently works in the field of Oceanography, with an emphasis on Polar Oceanography, Ocean Remote Sensing, Coastal Oceanography, and Oceans & Climate. He was a member of the National Committee for Antarctic Research (CONAPA/MCTI). He is currently a member of the National Committee of Marine Sciences (CCM/MCTI) and the NASA Ocean Colour Team. He coordinates the actions of the Coastal Zones sub-network of the CLIMATE NETWORK and the National Institute for Climate Change (INCT). He regularly reviews scientific articles submitted to national and international journals in the areas of oceanography and ocean remote sensing.
