Online workshop | AI: showcases for Ocean and Sea ice applications in the Arctic

This workshop will explore the use of artificial intelligence in Arctic ocean and sea ice applications, presenting real-world examples to showcase both successes and challenges. The focus will be on the capabilities and limitations of AI for observing, modeling, and analyzing ocean and sea ice, along with opportunities for future applications and collaborations.
Key topics will include:
  • Ocean and sea ice observing and quality control of data
  • Ocean and sea ice modelling (e.g. bias correction, reconstruction of variables, emulators, sub-grid processes, forecasts)
  • High-resolution downscaling e.g. forecasting, climate, coastal applications
  • Image processing and identification for biological applications (e.g. species recognition), iceberg identification, sea ice concentration and feature tracking, marine litter, harmful algal blooms and others
  • Digital Twin of the Ocean applications for AI
  • Participants and presenters will discuss recommendations for advancing Arctic ROOS and OceanPrediction DCC activities in the Arctic
The workshop will take place virtually, with the full agenda available soon. Limited opportunities for additional presentations may be available—interested speakers are encouraged to contact the organizers.
