Bio

Gabriela Reséndiz Colorado holds a Bachelor's degree in Petroleum Engineering from the Universidad Veracruzana, a Master's degree in Water Sciences from the Centro de Investigación Científica de Yucatán, and a PhD in Marine Ecology from the Centro de Investigación Científica y de Educación Superior de Ensenada, Baja California (CICESE). She is currently conducting postdoctoral research with the Ocean–Atmosphere Interaction Group at ICAyCC as part of UNAM's Elisa Acuña Scholarship Programme. Her research has focused on the application of numerical modelling and remote sensing to the study of coastal and oceanic ecosystems. In 2024, she was awarded first place in the postdoctoral category at the 3rd ICAyCC Student Congress for her work on oil spill simulations to generate environmental sensitivity maps. That same year, her research project on detecting algal blooms using remote sensing, developed as part of her doctoral thesis, earned her the ESRI Young Scholars Award. Throughout her career, she has worked as a secondary school teacher, environmental consultant, and researcher. From late 2021 to early 2024, she collaborated with the Gulf of Mexico Research Consortium (CIGoM).
