Bio
Ibrahim is a Professor of Earth Systems Science and Engineering and Applied Mathematics and Computational Science at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), where he leads research at the intersection of climate science, environmental intelligence, artificial intelligence, and advanced Earth system modeling.
He currently serves as the Director of the Saudi Aramco KAUST Marine Environmental Observatory (SAKMEO) and as the Director of the Climate Change Center at KAUST.
His research focuses on understanding and predicting complex geophysical systems by combining physics-based models, applied mathematics, observations, data assimilation, artificial intelligence, uncertainty quantification, and high-performance computing.
His team specializes in the Arabian Peninsula and its surrounding seas, with a focus on the Red Sea and Arabian Gulf. They develop integrated modeling and forecasting systems to study climate variability, extreme events, atmospheric and oceanic circulation, air quality, marine ecosystems, environmental risks, and their interactions.
