Bio

Mathieu Plante is a research scientist at Environment and Climate Change Canada, with expertise in sea ice physics, modelling and predictions. He completed his Ph.D. in 2021 at McGill University, with a thesis focusing on the Maxwell Elasto-Brittle rheology and its damage parameterization, which he implemented within the McGill sea ice model. His role at ECCC is to conduct research to improve the sea ice component of the ECCC prediction systems, with recent work on the mushy thermodynamics, on the sea ice rheology, and on sea ice dynamics validation from remote sensing observations.
