In a context of urgent environmental and socio-economic challenges, the Forum will highlight the critical role of RCoEs in connecting science and policy. These centres are also at the forefront of transforming research findings into tangible solutions for sustainable development through private sector involvement.
Across plenary discussions and thematic sessions around the components of biodiversity, water, agroecology, ocean and climate, participants will share experiences, identify opportunities for collaboration, and showcase concrete achievements. Case studies and research insights will support collective learning and the co-creation of context-specific solutions tailored to regional needs. This engagement will strengthen synergies among stakeholders and reinforce the catalytic role of RCoEs as drivers of long-term sustainable development across Africa.
The Ocean component, entitled “Ocean Prediction Enhancement in Regions of Africa - OPERA” aims to strengthen Sub-Saharan African Ocean prediction capabilities and cooperation at national, regional, pan-African levels. The component is implemented by Mercator Ocean International through its role as coordinator of the OceanPrediction Decade Collaborative Centre.
