The University of Abomey-Calavi (UAC) is Benin's largest public university and the country's leading institution for research and higher education in oceanography and marine sciences. Located near the Gulf of Guinea, it conducts multidisciplinary research on coastal oceanography, marine ecosystems, fisheries, climate change, and coastal resilience. UAC hosts the International Master's Programme in Oceanography and Applications, which trains students from across West Africa in ocean modelling, remote sensing, and marine resource management. The university is particularly recognized for its research on coastal erosion, lagoon dynamics, and the sustainable management of the Gulf of Guinea. Through strong partnerships with organizations such as Mercator Ocean International, UNESCO, IRD, CNRS, and the Belgian Royal Institute of Natural Sciences, UAC contributes to regional ocean observation, capacity building, and scientific innovation.
