Bio

Dr ABESSOLO ONDOA Grégoire defended his PhD thesis on 11 June 2020 in the field of Ocean - Atmosphere - Climate at the Laboratoire d'Etudes en Géophysique et Océanographie Spatiale (LEGOS) of the Post Doctorale School Sciences de l'Univers, de l'Environnement et de l'Espace (SDU2E) of the University of Toulouse III Paul Sabatier, Toulouse, France. His doctoral thesis focused on the morphological response of the coasts of Central and West Africa to ocean forcing, climate change and coastal development. His work has contributed significantly to the development of a new all-in-one technology for monitoring ocean forcing and morphological variations based on video imagery. This technology has been implemented in several Central and West African countries (notably Cameroon) through a network of coastal monitoring stations. His work has also helped to understand the contribution of waves to coastal sea level rise, justifying the importance of co-locating oceanographic buoys, tide gauges, coastal monitoring stations and satellite tracks. Dr ABESSOLO ONDOA Grégoire has extensive professional experience (over 10 years) in oceanography and coastal remote sensing. Since 2014, he has been working with several West and Central African universities and the Institut de Recherche pour le Développement (IRD) on issues related to coastal vulnerability and monitoring. Between 2014 and 2016, he worked as an engineer processing coastal data collected by the first video station installed in Grand Popo, Benin. From 2015 to 2018, he worked as a coastal oceanography engineer in the JEAI-IRD RELIFOME project (Response of the Cameroon coastline to Multi-Scale Forcing at the University of Douala). He was then recruited as an assistant at the Oceanography Department of the Institute of Halieutical Sciences (ISH) at the University of Douala, where he was promoted to Lecturer in November 2020. Between 2021 and 2022, he worked as a coastal environment expert in the FISH4ACP project (Phase 1) on the Cameroonian shrimp value chain, supported by the Institute of Fisheries Sciences of the University of Douala. He is currently an expert in oceanography and coastal remote sensing in the WACA-VAR project (2022-2025) on mapping the vulnerability, adaptability and resilience of coastal zones to climate change in Central and West Africa. He is also an expert in oceanography and coastal remote sensing in the JEAI-IRD Coasts Under Control project at the University of Cape Coast (Ghana) from 2022 to 2025. In 2023, Dr ABESSOLO ONDOA Grégoire has been appointed Head of the Oceanography - Hydrography - Meteorology Engineering Department of the National Advanced School of Maritime and Ocean Science and Technology (NASMOST) at the University of Ebolowa. Since 2020, Dr ABESSOLO ONDOA Grégoire has published more than 15 articles in A-rated journals. He also has extensive experience in IT, particularly in the creation of websites and the development of online data collection platforms.
